UFC BANTAMWEIGHT.
I come from Perth Western Australia, born in Joondalup and raised in Carramar my whole life. I started taekwondo when I was 6 years old and when I found something I was good at I just ran with it.
My dad was a big fight fan and I used to watch fights all the time with him as a kid and was inspired to start martial arts and learn how to fight. I was always a small kid so I felt I had to know how to defend and stick up for myself against other kids trying to push me around.
Fighting is all I’ve ever done and all I know, I left school to do a fake apprenticeship at the end of year 9 to pretty much just train full time and dedicate most of my attention towards it. My family and I both knew that I wasn’t going to go to uni or tafe or work in the trade business for a full time career so it was a no brainer to drop out and pursue martial arts entirely as that was my career path. I have had no back up plan and I feel that’s why I am successful.
I’m driven by the fact that this is all I have ever done. I don't need to be motivated to do it, it’s just part of who I am and what I do and what I have always done.
I guess the most interesting thing that has happened is that my dream has finally come true and I have reached the UFC and I am a contracted UFC fighter now. Talking to all the other fighters I have grown up watching and being fans of and now having interviews with them and them asking me about myself is pretty crazy. In my head it should be the other way round but I guess they are colleagues of mine now which is mind blowing.
I’ve been sponsored by VEX since before I turned pro. Louis and Ryan had just started VEX at the time, and have always been so supportive and I have loved seeing the company grow and evolve as my career has progressed also. VEX sponsorship means a lot to me as they have supported me from the start of my pro career, and it’s not just a business relationship, I actually consider Louis and Ryan good friends.
I love how much time and care the VEX team put into perfecting their products. Their MMA gloves have been a game-changer for me. I was using MMA gloves from another MMA brand previously and my knuckles used to always end up bleeding and the gloves would only hold up for a few months - but the VEX gloves are a lot more durable and actually protect my hands. My most favourite products are the MMA gloves & MMA shorts
